Winter sales: what is really worth it
Sales. Although the sales have already started a few weeks ago – and consequently, it is harder to find amazing clothes – the truth is I’ve bought incredible ones last week that I’m already wearing in this outfit. Don’t you believe? So, keep reading.
I mean, if it is true that when we are younger, any bargain conquers us (say hello to the dozens of tops on your wardrobe that have never been worn), when we get older, we privilege quality. And our own style.
With this being said, I was wanting a classic Ralph Lauren sweater (in merino wool and cashmere) for ages. It’s so chic and classy at once and I love it since I was a teenager. So I thought, “If I still love this sweater 15 years after I saw it for the first time, it might be worth buying it.” And so it was. I ended up finding it at the Vila do Conde outlet at a good price (for what it is, of course). And when I was there I went to Levi’s too and bought these amazing jeans that make me feel really confident in my own skin.
These were two of my big purchases of the sales: a timeless sweater and a cool pair of jeans that make me feel good with my body.
Invest in timeless pieces that you’ll keep waring winter after winter (forget the neon tones and go for black, dark blue or camel ones)
Talking about the coat, I also bought it on sales. Probably, 8 years ago. I remember buying it with my mum at Zara. And the bag, I found it at The Outnet, the Net-a-Porter outlet that has incredible pieces with really fair prices, about 5 years ago.
So the advice I give you to make good sales purchases is to bet on pieces that you’ll wear a lot. As winter clothing tends to be more expensive, take this time to invest in a good coat (favor natural fibers such as wool or cotton that, in addition to lasting longer, allow the skin to breathe), a cashmere scarf, a perfect fit pair of jeans, in a classic sweater and leather boots.
Of course, if there’s any piece you’ve been craving since the beginning of the collection, go for it. But also invest in timeless pieces that you’ll keep waring winter after winter (forget the neon tones and go for black, dark blue or camel ones). And, in addition to the fast fashion stores like Mango and Zara, explore others, search online and go to outlets. Actually, a good piece could be anywhere.
So take advantage of the fact that prices have been reduced further and make smart buying. More than spending rivers of money on clothes, the important thing is to invest in quality pieces that are totally your style.
