Pleated skirts. Feminine and beautiful, the pleated skirts had their big moment in the ’50s. I mean, is there anyone who doesn’t remember Marilyn Monroe in her white pleated skirt?
However, the origin of the pleated fabric dates back to Ancient Greece, where it was worn as a synonymous of power. And it was in 1909 that Mariano Fortuny (a Spanish couturier) patented a method of pleating silk that would become famous for the beautiful and romantic dresses.

Time has passed but pleated fabrics remained as timeless, especially when we talk about skirts and dresses. So that, pleated skirts are a trendy – and this season they truly are (we saw them in Fendi, Dior, Burberry or Calvin Klein) – but their elegance lives far beyond fashion and trends. It is a beautiful, feminine piece and very easy to wear, no matter the season.
So if you love pleated skirts, enjoy the sunny days to wear them. They look amazing paired with high heels, sneakers or even boots. Is there anything better than versatility?
