L’Interdit: all you need to know about Givenchy’s new perfume
L’Interdit, Givenchy. If there is a brand that has always fascinated me, this brand is Givenchy. Perhaps because his master creator, Hubert de Givenchy, born in 1927 and a Parisian inhabitant since he was 17, was a creative genius as few.
It was he who, in 1952, signed the first collection where there were separated women outfits, into skirts and blouses, marking a turning point at a time when most of the outfits were worn at one piece. Thus, he opened the door to many combinations with the same clothes.
The following year, when Hubert met Audrey Hepburn, lending her several looks for the movie “Sabrina”, marked the beginning of a beautiful friendship that resulted in the most famous black dress in the History of fashion: the one worn by Audrey in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
A new reinterpreted L'Interdit came to the light. And with it, an ode to freedom in the form of notes like orange blossom, jasmine, patchouli, tuberosa (among others) that makes us all feel a little Audrey ourselves.
But, speaking about the perfume, it was also Audrey – main character of the Givenchy maison – who inspired him. It was the year 1957 when the first perfume from Maison Givenchy was launched, with Audrey starring the campaign. Yes, as you might have guessed, the perfume was called L’Interdit. And, at that time, perfumes were not associated, like today, with “faces”. We owe this to Givenchy.
In 2018, and having been the last project of the designer who passed away in March, a new reinterpreted L’Interdit came to the light. And with it, an ode to freedom in the form of notes like orange blossom, jasmine, patchouli, tuberosa (among others) that makes us all feel a little Audrey ourselves.
And the truth is that perfume has conquered me. I mean I’ve been an Audrey Hepburn’s fan since I was a kid, and so about Givenchy creations. But, the scent is, also, reason enough to snatch us.
If you have not tried it yet, go to any perfumery or Sephora and enjoy it. It may not be a perfume for all – after all, not all of us like the same scents – but the ones it conquers, it’s real love.
