Why is tartan so classy?
Trend alert. Besides leopard, which is considered – especially by fashionistas – as a neutral pattern, the tartan is trendy on this season too.
Anyways, as tartan has this royal thing, it’s way more than just a trend. Actually, it’s a timeless pattern.
I mean, the tartan origin is from Scotland and, its different colors served precisely to distinguish the Scottish clans.

But it was Queen Victoria who as a Scotland and her property in Balmoral lover popularized tartan. Thus, after the Second World War, the kilts and plaid skirts were massively worn and not just for commemorative reasons.
Anyways, its evolution in the history of fashion is dubious, but it is known that the tartan skirts began to be way more worn after the 40’s of the last century.
But with the emergence of the punk movement – and with the designer Vivienne Westwood choosing it as one of the favorite patterns in 1993/1994 – tartan has gained “a voice” and has become transversal to the whole society.
Nowadays, it is considered a classic and timeless pattern, especially when it white, black or red. This means that, whether you’re into trendy tartan pieces or you just want to wear the old ones you have, please do. Actually, it’s a great way to add some color to winter outfits without being too trendy, don’t you think?
