Dário Madeira: from the tragedy the most beautiful story of shoes was born
Dário Madeira. Some people believe everything in life happens for a reason. Destiny, belief or superstition, we have all thought – even at once – about it. But in the hurry of the days, we get into a routine and let ourselves go, without stopping to feel what would truly make us happy. Until something happens. And we are forced to lock up.
Dario was one of us, in that crazy routine they call the 21st century. And the day a stroke threw him into a hospital bed in 2009, the world stopped. Or, at least, the reality as he knew it changed irreversibly. It was all about years of treatments, tears, achievements, and sweat. Dario lost the movement in his right hand but gave Elisabete, the woman of his life, the mission of being his right arm. And she was. And is.
Dario was one of us, in that crazy routine they call the 21st century. And the day a stroke threw him into a hospital bed in 2009, the world stopped. Or, at least, the reality as he knew it changed irreversibly.
With this being said, it was with a smile ripped on their lips that we were received by these two forces of nature that are an inspiration in the form of people. Dario made an opportunity from tragedy and gave wings to what had always been his passion: shoes. He began to draw with his left hand, and today the sketches make him look like a left-handed. But it is the shoes that take our hearts and make our soul happy. Thoroughly crafted, and totally leather made, each pair has the name of an important woman in Dario’s life. There is a model Elisabete, of course, and a Francisca in honor of the couple’s daughter.
But Dário goes further: he proposed himself the mission of designing shoes that could be worn by victims of stroke. Anyone who has never seen himself diminished physical abilities has no idea how hard it can be – and, most often, even impossible, to put the shoes on with just one hand. I tried, and it was not easy at all.
So each pair of shoes Dário Madeira is a celebration of the feminine self and a call to feel beautiful in our own skin. Blondes, brunettes, fat, thin, physically limited or athletes, the feeling is common when we wear Dário Madeira shoes: an overwhelming welfare and the certainty that we are beautiful, as we are.
For those who are curious, Dário’s atelier is located in São João da Madeira and everyone is welcome to learn more about these Portuguese shoes made by whom had the courage to take the reins of his own life in his hands.
Meantime, stay tuned because tomorrow there will be a major giveaway here on the blog of 3 pairs of Dário Madeira shoes.
AT the end of the day, what we cultivate is what remains with us. And someone who is good always makes the good for someone. As Dário and Elisabete did to me.
