Books are sexy: buy them with discount
World Book Day. It’s today. And to celebrate this day – how can we not celebrate the best silent friends who make us company and make us more educated? – FNAC will be with 20 and 50% off in several books, many of them new in Portugal (if you don’t live here, maybe you’ll not be able to use the discount, sorry). So, if you’ve been wanting to buy a book for ages, today is the day.
But let’s start from the beginning. My story with books started early, on my childhood. Due to the fact of being too shy, I have always seen on books a friend and a shelter since I learned to read. And, it was always them that made me happy. From the lightest ones to the heavy law books, I never skipped a page. I tasted them like someone who relishes a life that is not hers, but maybe it could be. I have said it once and I will always repeat it: books are the closest we will ever be to living other lives and being other people.
And I like this. I like to immerse myself in words that are not mine but could be, and I like to forget the world to live other worlds. It is like a therapy, in which there is no one else. A magical world where no one else can enter. Just me and the characters.
Books are sexy. As much as I love clothes, and make-up (and I do), books are my safe haven. They make me feel smarter each day. And, it doesn’t matter if time will wrinkle my face, because it won’t take from me the stories that, written by others, were once mine.
That was how I fell in love with Gabriel Allon and found myself wanting to visit Israel. For those who don’t know, Gabriel is the main character in Daniel Silva’s books. He is an agent of the Mossad and me, who have always loved a beautiful story of spies (my favorites are those and the ones of love with a tragic end), catch myself breathless with every page that I turn and every adventure that I live with Gabriel. I’ve traveled the world without leaving the couch, do you believe?
After the “Everything You Want Me to Be” (which I highly suggest you to read, it’s a book that grabs our attention from the very first page, and that made me cry a few tears and think a lot about choices and relationships), “House of Spies,” Daniel’s Silva most recently released book , is the one on my bedside table (it’s with discount at FNAC, check it out).
Honestly, for a long time now, every day, at night, I turn my cell phone aside and I make time for myself and my books. It’s something that makes me feel good and makes me happy. And in an era where digital wants to take the world, there is no better refuge than a book, to hang up and travel without leaving the place.
With this being said, I want you to know how amazing it is to read. To open a new book and start a new story. Books are sexy. As much as I love clothes, and make-up (and I do), books are my safe haven. They make me feel smarter each day. And, it doesn’t matter if time will wrinkle my face, because it won’t take from me the stories that, written by others, were once mine. Reading is an investment in us like no other, believe me.
So, if you happen to be in Portugal take advantage of FNAC discounts – believe me, there are books for all tastes – and let yourself fly by the power of the words. In less than nothing you will surrender to their power and there will be no place you’d rather be.
