Surround yourself with people who make you better
People. My grandma, like all the grandmas in the world, knows a lot of popular sayings. When i first heard this one tell me who your friends are that i’ll tell you who you are, was from her. At that time i was almost a teenager and i didn’t truly understood it. Actually, i kind of found it a silly thing to be said. You know, all i wanted was to be surrounded by other kids like me, going out and talking about what mattered to us at the time. What the hell mattered who my friends were?
Anyway, time has passed and i finally understood how true this popular saying is. After all, there are people that make us better. And there are other people who wake up the worst in us. We should surround ourselves with the first ones.
There are people that make us better. And there are other people who wake up the worst in us.
Talking about this, for a long time i had a best friend who was cool and smart and a good friend. But, she used to make me worst. Everybody has a bad half, and she liked to push the worst part of me, like living with no limits, just having fun with no hard work. At the time i absolutely knew that she had that effect on me, but i used to ignore it. After all, she was my best friend.
It was when we had a disagreement and distance became real that i truly understood the dimension of what i didn’t want to see.
The thing is, it may not seem so, but she isn’t a bad person. However, even giving me a lot of good things like intelligent talks and lots of fun, she made me be a worst person. And that’s simply not good.
At the end of the day, i want to be surrounded of people who make me better. A better person, a better friend, a better work woman, a better human being. People who care and make me feel proud of myself, challenging me to going out of my comfort zone. I want to be surrounded by people who make me feel confident and make me love myself more when i’m with them.
It may sound selfish, but isn’t it happiness a selfish act?
That being said, each one of us is a person in constant progress who are strongly influenced by the ones who are around us. And that’s why it’s so important to surround ourselves with people who make us better in order to evolve.
Tell me who your friends are and i’ll tell you who you are.
