The nightmare at Île Porquerolles (or why you should not believe in everything you see)
Holidays. When we decided to go to South of France i immediately looked for cool places to go to on instagram. That was when i found this island called Île Porquerolles. All the pics i’ve seen showed a paradisiac crystal clear water that remind me of Cuba. Guess what? I needed to go there.
Ant that’s the big shame of instagram, you know. One sees a lot of good pics from a place and immediately wants to go there too. Oftenly the place is really beautiful but from time to time it is a bait. Like that time when we went to the waterfalls to take these pics and the way was too hard and steep that i’ve felt.
Therefore, when we drove to the port and the boat was full i should have guessed that destiny was trying to say me not to go. But, i insisted. And so we drove farer to another port where we did get the boat to Île Porquerolles.
Anyway, i admit that it was my fault. I got so dazzled with the awesome pics that i haven’t properly researched the place. All i knew is that the island was paradisiac and where to get the boat to go there.

The boat travel was really good despite the hot weather. And to be totally honest i was really happy for going to the island. Clearly, i didn’t know what was expecting me.
With this being said, when we were arriving one of the sailors said something about the nearest beach being almost 15 minutes walking. I though i have misunderstood because you know i do speak french quiet weel but i’m not a native.
However, as soon as we landed at the marina i understood. The island is a natural reserve and there are no cars (unless the local ones). So you have to walk or go by bike.
As the most beautiful beach was one hour far walking, we decided to go to the closest one. I mean 15 minutes walking is not that much. What we didn’t know is that it was not 15 minutes but about 30 minutes walking on a dusty way to get there. As you may have guessed we were loaded with stuff for beach like towels and books.
After a long walk we finally saw the beach. But it was so crowded that one almost could not see the sand. By the way it was thick and not that beautiful. The water was crystal clear but it was a little bit cold too.
So, we just dive one or two times and because we have no space to our towels we left and walked more 30 minutes back.
Meanwhile, we’ve tried to grab something to eat at one of the restaurants of the village but guess what: all restaurants (unless one near to marina) closed at 14h00. At that time i was already mad, but still we found the open restaurant and i ate a strawberry ice cream that i did deserve for all that walking. As there was a cute house near the place, we shooted those pics.
Anyway, as you can see i wasn’t able to take pics at the beach what got me pissed. So, i concluded that the only way of going to the beach there without walking like crazy is by yacht.
Thus, this experience served to be more careful when choosing the places to go to based on some instagram pics. Next time i’ll think twice and i’ll do my research.
